Illinois Basin Geo-Laboratory for Expanding CO₂-EOR

Project Overview
This project aims to identify economic strategies to co-optimize carbon dioxide enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR) with associated CO2 storage in stacked greenfield residual oil zones (ROZs), or a combination of stacked ROZs and conventional oil reservoirs in the Illinois Basin. The combination of conventional revenue streams and tax credits is a promising approach to accelerate deployment of CCS technologies in the Illinois Basin and throughout the U.S.
Carbon Solutions is supporting Indiana University’s contributions to the project and are working with the University of Illinois-Illinois State Geological Survey and other partners to identify the business cases for moving forward with CCS technology investments.
