Title: Development and Commercialization of 𝘚𝘊𝘖₂𝘛 to Maximize CO2-based Subsurface Energy Potential

This project, led by Carbon Solutions, develops a new software package, called 𝘚𝘊𝘖₂𝘛ᴾᴿᴼ, to rapidly and accurately screen for CO2 storage, CO2-geothermal, and energy storage opportunities. 𝘚𝘊𝘖₂𝘛ᴾᴿᴼ drastically enhances and commercializes a prototype tool originally developed by Carbon Solutions’ Richard Middleton, to support US energy security through new, enhanced, and expanded energy technologies. 𝘚𝘊𝘖₂𝘛ᴾᴿᴼ uses a unique and transformational approach to simulate CO2 sequestration in saline aquifers that couples the dynamic physics of CO2 storage associated with full-physics models with the speed of an integrated assessment model. Examples of the simulated physics include dynamic CO2 injection rates and CO2 plume evolution over time and varying reservoir characteristics (reservoir formation depth, thickness, permeability, porosity, and temperature). These dynamic physical processes are coupled with advanced economics to produce the most advanced approach to modeling and understanding CO2 injection and storage across large regions.
