CCS in latest IPCC Report

Last month, Working Group III of the IPCC released their sixth report on mitigating climate change. In this report, Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) was featured. The Global CCS Institute put together an informative brief on the CCS highlights from the report.

Some of the highlights:

  • “Current global rates of CCS deployment are far below those in modelled pathways to limit global warming to 1.5°C or 2°C”
  • “If geologic storage sites are appropriately selected and managed, CO₂ can be permanently isolated from the atmosphere”
  • “The technical geological CO₂ storage capacity exceeds the CO₂ storage requirements through 2100 to limit global warming to 1.5°C, although regional availability could be a limiting factor”
