Summer Internship Diversity Program

Carbon Solutions is seeking interns for two distinct projects: SCO2TPRO and LOCAETA. These projects have unique focuses and skill set needs, with some overlap between them. We may hire interns to work on one project, both projects, or collaboratively across both, depending on interest and expertise. We welcome motivated individuals eager to contribute to one or both of these exciting initiatives.

Project #1 LOCAETA: The LOCal Air Emissions Tracking Atlas (LOCAETA) is an analysis tool we are developing to quantify and visualize the air quality co-benefits of decarbonizing industrial facilities. Desired skills/areas of expertise include atmospheric science, air dispersion models (such as Hysplit or AERMOD), coding proficiency (e.g., Python, R), statistical analysis of satellite or other geospatial data, and a passion for the low-carbon energy transition.

Project #2 SCO2TPRO: This project is developing a novel geodatabase of geologic properties across North America – and starting to look at parts of Europe and Australia – for identifying and screening CO₂ storage sites. We are specifically looking for candidates with backgrounds in geology and/or database architecture. Geologists will preferably have expertise in stratigraphy, structural geology, and subsurface fluids with experience creating maps and analyzing geospatial data in ArcGIS or QGIS. Database architects will have expertise in PostgreSQL, PostGIS as well as Julia or Python with experience in object-oriented development and ORM techniques.
